Hello guys in I am Vaibhav and in this tutorial I am going to show you how to add wooden frame using PS. I am using here PS CS6 for windows. It gives your photo a classy look especially when your photo is of special occasion. In the above picture the persons are Indian actor Ritesh Deshmukh and Indian actress Genelia D’souza. During this tutorial I am going to use pattern, layer style and nothing more. You can also watch the full HD tutorial here.

step 1: open your photo and do some initialisation

Open up your photo using PS. Press F7 for the layer window. Press ctrl+J or command+J to make a copy of your background layer. Lets name that layer with layer 1 Then add new layer by going to layer->new->layer. You can also add new layer with default shortcut ctrl+shift+N or command+shift+N. Name that layer with wood.

step 2: Increase the canvas size

Go to image->adjustment->canvas size or you can press ctrl+alt+C or command+option+C to open the canvas size window. Basically canvas size increases the size of your canvas or rather I would say it increases the dimension of your photograph.

When the canvas window has opened, first check the relative. Drop down the pixels menu and click on percent. Now write the number of times you want to increase your canvas area. Suppose of you write 15 then your dimension of your photo will be increased by 15%. I am going to write here 15.

step 3: fill with wood pattern4

Press F7 to open your layer window. Select the wood layer. Go to edit->fill. You can also press shift+F5 to open your fill window.

In the fill  window, drop down the contents menu. Select pattern. Now click on the area which is encircled with red color. It will open the type of pattern Select patterns. Then select wood pattern  which is at 1st column and 2nd row. Press OK. You can see that the whole picture in now fill with wood pattern.

step 4: Add delete the pattern in unwanted area

Press F7 for the layers. Select your wood layer first and then press and hold ctrl or command  and then click on the icon of layer 1. This will select the area of you layer 1. You can also see the above image for reference.

Now go to select->inverse to invert your selection. You can also do it by ctrl+shift+I or command+shift+I. This will invert your selection.

Now add layer mask by clicking at the bottom of the layer window. When you added that your the unwanted wooden area has been deleted.

step 5: Give some effect to your frame

Press F7 for the layer window. Select the wood layer. Add a layer style by clicking at the bottom of your layer window.. Select bevel & emboss. Bevel & emboss makes the edges shiny.

First make the changes in your bevel & emboss window which is encircled with red color and then click on  color overlay.

Change the blend mode to color burn and then click on the red color just adjacent to it.

Write the same code in your color picker.

Press F7 for your layers window. You can adjust the fill bar if you think that you have over-colored your frame. Please don’t adjust the opacity bar because if you decrease your opacity your frame will be ruined.

step 6: give final touch

Press F7 for the layers window. Select layer 1. Then once again add layer style. This time click on inner shadow. It will add shadow to your image and make it looks better.

In the layer style window. Change the blend mode to multiply. Set the angle to 0 degree.
