Hello friends I am Vaibhav and in this tutorial I am going to show you how to add water reflection using Photoshop. As you can see from the above picture there is no doubt that your photo will look stunning after the final touch. You just select the are that you want the reflection of, than copy it and then paste it in the inverted form. this is it.
Open your photo in PS and press “M” for the rectangular marquee tool or you can also select it from the left panel. Select the area that you want the reflection of.
Press ctrl+c to copy it. Press ctrl+n for the new file and then paste it with ctrl+v.
After that go to image->image rotation->flip canvas vertical. This will flip your canvas upside down.
After you inverted photo. Press F7 for the pop-up window of layer. Select “layer 1” which is made by default as you pasted a photo. Press ctrl+A to select the whole image and then press ctrl+c to copy it.
Now to go back to your old photo(original one) and now press ctrl+v to paste that.
Press F7 for the pop-up window of layer. Select the layer which you have just pasted or default layer 1. Select the “move tool” or simply press “V”. Align the inverted photo just below the the real one or as shown in figure below. Don’t be panic if your photo has been cut due to small canvas size. We will fix that in next step.
Now go to image->canvas size or just press ctrl+alt+c. Now you will see a pop up window of canvas size. First off check “relative” and change “pixels” to “percent”. Now in the “height” form write 50. Now in the “anchor” menu click on the box which is on the first row but on the second column. You can refer with the image shown below.
Now you can see that the canvas size has been increased and your cut photo is back again. If the canvas size is too big than you can simply crop that. Just select the crop tool from the left menu or press “C”. Now crop your photo by simply drag and drop. Double click on your photo or just press “Enter” to finalize cropping.
Press F7 for the pop-up window of layers. Add new layer by pressing ctrl+shift+N. Press and hold ctrl and click on the image of the layer that contains your inverted reflection to select the area. Now click back on the new layer that you have just created. Now click on the foreground color which is on the left panel. Now you can see a window of foreground color. Enter the value as shown below. It will select your foreground color to ocean blue.
Now click gradient or simply press “G”. Now look ate the top left of the option bar which is present on the upper side of PS. Drop the “Click to edit the menu”. You can see a circle look like structure on the top right of the dropped window, click on that and select “reset gradients”. It will simply get back your pre-defined gradients. Don’t you will not loose the gradients that you have downloaded from web, it just get back the pre-defined one. Now click on the second option that is changing from blue to transparent.
With your newly created layer selected. Press and hold “Shift” simply drag and drop the gradient from down to up. You can see that the bottom of the bottom has changed a bit. If you are not satisfied do this step one more time. If you have overdone it just reduce the opacity of that layer which you can found on the upper side of layer window.
Now go to filters->distort->ripple. You can see a pop-up window of ripple. Select “large” and than adjust the amount as per your requirement. Don’t go with the one that is shown below because I am showing you the photo that I was captured using 16 MP camera. May be you shot your photo with different MP camera. So the number of pixels varies as MP is varying.
Now once again go to filters but this time go to stylize and than “wind”. If your photo has low resolution i.e. lower than 2400 pixels in width then select “wind” otherwise select “blast’. Now select “from the left” and press ok. Now do it one more time but this time select “from the right”.
Now press F7 for the layer window. Press and hold “ctrl” and the layer which has reflection and the layer which we have used for gradient. After selecting them both, right click on that layer and click on “merge layer visible”. It simply merges your layer and now you can see that the two layer has been merged.
Now reduce the opacity as per your requirement of the newly merged layer. Select eraser tool or simply press “E”. With the eraser tool selected right click on any area of the photo to bring the eraser window. Now reduce the hardness to 0% and apply it on the area that you want to delete or in the better words I would say the area from the real picture that you want back. It could be tree, surface etc.
